A new original musical set in a barbershop on the corner of memory and possibility. A barber, his twin sister, and four singers with voices full of longing stand at the edge of everything they've been afraid to want.

For the Audition:

 - Please prepare 32 bars of a pop genre song. 

 - Bring music on a charged, Bluetooth compatible device or bring piano sheet music in your key; Accompanist provided. 

 - Prepare to present a one-minute monolog from a contemporary play

SHIRLEY: Lead. Female. 18-30. Alto who sings in various styles. Shirley works at the barbershop but has a secret dream. She is quiet and somewhat insecure, but ultimately knows what she wants. Including ensemble work, Shirley will sing in one duet (lyrical waltz style), and sing in three different vocal groups for a singing competition: power ballad barbershop style/rockabilly, and K-pop vocal styles.


DANI: Lead. Female. 18-60. One actor plays Dani at two different ages: Young Dani (ages 18-21), and older Dani (ages 58-65). Female; Soprano who can sing in various styles; She is the twin sister of Billy (who is the barber at their father's barbershop).  She has followed up a singing career as a talent scout. Dani carries around some guilt regarding a decision made years ago. Including ensemble work, Dani co-sings one duet (reprise of late 70"s soul), one duet (rock style), and is in a vocal group singing a late 70's soul song.


BILLY: Lead. Male. 18-60. One actor plays Billy at two different ages: Young Billy (ages 18-21), and older Billy (ages 58-65). Male: Tenor who can sing in various styles; He is the twin brother of Dani (a talent scout). Billy took over the barbershop when his father became ill. Unfortunately, Billy is not a very good barber. However, Billy is duty bound, to the point of denying his own dream. Including ensemble work, Billy co-sings one duet (lyrical waltz style), one duet (reprise of late 70"s soul), one duet (rock style), and is in a vocal group singing a late 70's soul song.




DESMOND: Supporting. Male. 18-70 Any age. Desmond is timelessly old. A male, a baritone, and also serves as a co-MC. He and Harold are on the stage through the whole play, in the barbershop, all knowing. Desmond plays the lottery looking for a big win. Desmond has his own dream. Including ensemble work, he sings with Harold one song a cappella style, with a reprise of this song later in the musical.


HAROLD:  Supporting. Male. 18-70. Harold is timelessly old, male, a bass, and serves also as a co-MC. He and Desmond are on the stage through the whole play, in the barbershop, all knowing. Harold spends most of his time organizing his collection of recipes on his laptop. Harold has his own dream. Including ensemble work, he sings with Desmond one song in a cappella style, with a reprise of this song later in the musical.


TOMMY & LINK: Gender fluid, age 17-21, Tenor (or alto) who is able to sing in various styles. Tommy is very excited to take on new challenges. Link is in a flashback 1979 scene, singing bass. Including the ensemble work, Tommy sings two songs as part of a trio (one in a cappella and one in a jazz influenced dialogue style), and sings in three different vocal groups for a singing competition, in power ballad, barbershop style/rockabilly, and K-pop vocal styles. Link sings a late 70's soul song, with 3 others.


AHMAD & FELIPÉ: Gender fluid, age 17-21, Tenor (or alto) who is able to sing in various styles. Ahmad is very excited to take on new challenges, but also rather wary of wading in too deep. Felipe is in a flashback 1979 scene, singing tenor/alto. Including the ensemble work, Ahmad sings two songs as part of a trio (one in a cappella and one in a jazz influenced dialogue style), and sings in three different vocal groups for a singing competition, in power ballad, barbershop style/rockabilly, and K-pop vocal styles. Felipe sings a late 70's soul song, with 3 others.



BONZO & WILLIAM: Supporting. Male. 18-50. Bonzo is a young male, 17-21, and William is an older male in his 40's, a tenor who is able to sing in various styles. Bonzo is very excited to take on new challenges, but cautious about getting in too deep. William is Billy's father, in a flashback 1979 barbershop scene. Including the ensemble work, Bonzo sings two songs as part of a trio (one in a cappella and one in a jazz influenced dialogue style), and sings in three different vocal groups for a singing competition, in a power ballad, barbershop style/rockabilly, and K-pop vocal styles. William does not have a singing role.
