A Grief Dialogues Immersive Experience
Cast for truth and range.
Our Loving Companions is an immersive evening of short plays, poetry, and music about the animals we love, the human animal bond and the particular grief of losing them. It is part of Grief Dialogues’ ongoing work using theater to open honest conversations about dying, death, and loss. What follows isn’t a typical audition. It’s the beginning of a conversation, and here is how it works.

The Audition Process
- by Invitation after reviewing headshot, resume & availability
Casting conversation with the actors
Our auditions are invitation-only and intentionally low-pressure. This isn’t a cold read, and there are no sides to prepare. Because this show asks performers to hold space for grief, their own and the audience’s, we care less about a polished audition than about who you are, what you bring into a room, and why this work matters to you.
1. A short self-tape (no sides). Just you, talking to camera. Relaxed, unscripted, about two to three minutes. Introduce yourself and answer one or two of the questions that we will send you in your own words. Nothing to memorize and no character to play; we want to meet you, not a performance.
2. A conversation. A warm, unhurried chat (video or in person) where we get to know each other: your relationship to the material, how you like to work, and whether this feels like the right fit for both of us.
3. A follow-up, if it feels right. A chance to talk specifics: the piece, the immersive format, and the rehearsal dates.
