Roles Available (Please note: Prospero, Caliban, and Ariel 1 and 3 are pre-cast):

Please submit for roles you feel aligned with. Gender indicated by roles is the role as played, not a restriction on the gender of the actor.

ANTONIO, Male, 40+

As close as the play comes to a true villain, Antonio is Duke of Milan, but only because he had his older brother, Prospero, shipped off in a rowboat with his infant daughter. Not content to just enjoy the spoils of his conscious-free life, he spends most of the play plotting to kill Alonso, once it seems that Ferdinand, Alonso’s only heir is dead.

ALONSO, Male or Female, 40 +

King (or Queen) of Naples, mother (or father) of Ferdinand. Mostly seems to worry about the missing Prince, and regret stuff. Very quick to forgive and very quick to accept forgiveness once his progeny is restored to him.

FERDINAND, Male, 18-30

Prince of Naples, handsome and strong, athletic (does a lot of lifting, is a good swimmer, etc.), smart enough to speak some lovely poetry and know when to keep his mouth shut and be courteous. Son of ALONSO, he falls in love with MIRANDA and spends most of the play talking to her. And just her. Mostly about her.

STEPHANO, Male, 25+

Butler to ALONSO, he’s a total snob and a bit of jerk, but with a certain smarmy charm. A Raging drunk, he spends most of the play talking to TRINCULO and getting them both, along with CALIBAN, completely sauced. Is the kind of guy who thinks he’s better at everyone else’s job, while being pretty terrible at his own.

TRINCULO, Any Gender, 25+

The Fool in ALONSO’s court, Trinc loves a good joke, a good bed to lay down in, and a good drink. Ties one on with STEPHANO, with whom they have a love-hate thing going on, and rivals CALIBAN for the butler’s attention- and access to booze. Did not plan to die on a desert island, and is not happy that it appears that’s going to happen. Scared of thunder.

ARIEL 2, Male, any age

One of three aspects of the island spirit known collectively as ARIEL, he is an earth spirit who doubles as a sailor on the sinking royal yacht, and also the goddess CERES in the masque. Looking for an actor with strong movement skills, strong singing skills, and the ability to play a hand carried instrument of some kind.

MIRANDA, Female, 18+

Prospero’s daughter. Spirited, poetic, smart, probably a little traumatized, she’s lived most fo her life on an enchanted island, but seems very equipped to take it in stride.
